Roanoke Valley’s Top Spring Festivals and Events

Is there ever a more beautiful time in Roanoke than spring? The sun has finally come out to play, the birds are chirping, wildlife abounds, and the entire valley is sweet with the fragrance of blooming dogwoods. It’s the perfect season to get out and about and immerse yourself in nature.

Which is probably why spring in the Roanoke Valley is also festival season! This region definitely knows how to take advantage of the rising temperatures and increasingly lovely outdoor conditions. Are you looking for ways to get out of the house and into some spring fun? Here are some of our favorite local, warm-weather events:

April Events

  • April 1: Big Lick For the Love of the Brew Beer Fest
Over 20 breweries are participating this year, showcasing their seasonal and rare selections. And if beer alone won’t get you there, then go for the live music, the Fast Burger food truck, and various other vendors. Or go to make a difference—proceeds benefit Mountain View Humane!
  • April 15: 19th Annual Blue Ridge Kite Festival
Arts, crafts, food, games…and kites! Anyone is welcome to participate, or just lay back on a picnic blanket and gaze at the colorful, kite-filled sky. With free admission and free parking, there’s no excuse for missing this one.
  • April 20-22: Down by Downtown Music Festival
Three days of live music all throughout downtown Roanoke…this is the hippest, hottest, coolest, craziest, grooviest event of the year. Don’t you dare miss it!
  • April 22: Blue Ridge Marathon
Officially considered “America’s toughest road marathon,” this race begins and ends in downtown Roanoke…and takes you through the winding ups and downs of the Blue Ridge Parkway, in between. Beautiful, but extremely challenging, the course will take you up Roanoke Mountain for some of the most spectacular views in the area. And for those who aren’t in the mood for competition, walkers are welcome and encouraged!
  • April 28-29: Sounds of the Mountains Storytelling and Music Festival
You don’t have to venture far to get back to a simpler time. Head to Camp Bethel, just 10 miles north of town, for a weekend of tall tales and wild yarns, folk music and fresh food.
